Government announces occupational reviews

President of Treasury Board Anna Thistle advises that government will conduct occupational studies of the remaining classes represented by the Association of Allied Health Professionals (AAHP).

"Government has reviewed the information AAHP provided in a presentation on October 23, 2000," said Minister Thistle. "The new information suggests these positions should be analyzed and assessed by conducting a classification review."

Minister Thistle stated the review of these classes is an extension of an earlier review conducted on the majority of classes within the AAHP group.

"The results of that review were released on August 30, 2000, and todays announcement will conclude studies for the AAHP group," said Minister Thistle. "Among the occupations to be included in this review are psychologists, audiologists, respiratory therapists, and mental health counsellors."

Minister Thistle said the comprehensive occupational review will start immediately.

"In keeping with our ongoing commitment to health care, we are also giving consideration to extending, to directly related classes, the occupational review of social workers and licenced practical nurses," stated Minister Thistle. "We have had discussions with NAPE and we will be making a decision in the near future."
