Minister Thistle pleased with report on governments computer systems

Treasury Board President Anna Thistle said that she is pleased with reports that the progress of testing of governments computer systems for potential Y2K problems is ahead of schedule and that no problems have been reported to date.

"I have received reports from the testing of all areas of government systems and equipment across Newfoundland and Labrador including the health care and transportation sectors and all government systems that have been tested to date are operating normally," said Thistle. "I would like to thank all the men and women who worked so diligently over the past four years and on New Years to ensure that governments systems rolled over smoothly and will function properly when routine government business resumes today."

To date, most of the provincial governments computer systems and equipment have been tested and no Y2K problems have been detected. The minister also stated that while no major problems are expected, the testing will continue over the next few days to ensure that all operating systems and equipment will function properly.
