WHSCC Board appoints new CEO

J. Wayne Trask, chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission is pleased to announce the appointment of Ann Marie Hann as Chief Executive Officer. Ms. Hann was selected through a public competition and the appointment has been approved by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council. Ms. Hann will assume her duties on November 13.

In her role as chief executive officer, she will report to the board of directors and will be responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the organization.

Ms. Hann has worked in the public sector for more than 13 years. As the senior economic policy and planning officer in Executive Council, she gained extensive experience in the provision of advanced planning, policy development, evaluation support and advisory services to Cabinet, its policy committees and departments in the area of economic and resource policy.

In September 1997, she served as assistant deputy minister, labour, with the Department of Environment and Labour. Subsequently, she was appointed assistant deputy minister, environment, and in May 1998, became deputy minister in the Department of Environment and Labour. Ms. Hann holds Bachelor of Commerce and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Memorial University.

"I am very pleased to have such a well qualified, experienced and outstanding individual chosen as CEO," said Mr. Trask. "She has an extensive knowledge of the workers� compensation system and I, along with the members of the board, look forward to working closely with Ms. Hann, particularly as we embark on a very comprehensive review of the existing system. Her expertise will be invaluable."

Serving over 14,000 employers and about 12,000 injured workers, the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission is an employer-funded no fault insurance system that promotes safe and healthy workplaces, provides return-to-work programs and fair compensation to injured workers and their dependants.
