Province-wide information
sessions planned
for venture capital investment
program
The first two of 25 province-wide information
sessions about a new government venture capital investment program will be
held on Tuesday, November 28 in Carbonear and Arnolds Cove.
The sessions will provide information about
the Direct Equity Tax Credit program, one of two venture capital tax credit
investment programs announced October 30 by Ernie McLean, acting Minister of
Development and Rural Renewal, and Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Finance.
The program is designed to encourage
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to invest in local small businesses. Those
who invest in local small businesses can claim 20 or 35 per cent of the cost
of their investment against their provincial personal income tax. The
program targets companies engaged in small business in growing areas of the
economy, such as information technology, aquaculture, forestry and agrifoods
enterprises, dimension stone, manufacturing and processing, export-oriented
businesses, advanced technologies, tourism and cultural industries.
The information sessions will provide an
opportunity to both investors and small businesses to learn about the
details of the program.
