Contract for Sir Thomas Roddick Health Centre

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, Kevin Aylward, MHA - St. George's-Stephenville East, and Gerald Smith, MHA - Port au Port, today announced that a $739,050.95 contract has been awarded to Midland Construction Ltd. of Pasadena.

"This construction tender is the first major construction contract for the new health centre," said Mr. Aylward. "The scope of work includes site excavation and fill to establish final rough grade elevations for the building footprint, internal roadways and parking areas. It includes the installation of internal water distribution mains, and the sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems. It also includes the rerouting of the existing 300 mm trunk watermain."

"It is very satisfying to see the construction begin this month and be substantially completed before the end of June 2000," said Aylward.

"This is welcome news to the people of Bay St. George, Stephenville, Port au Port area. This clearly demonstrates that the long awaited new hospital for our region is about to become a reality," stated Smith.
