Viking celebrations featured on national television program

Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, is pleased that the province will be receiving national coverage on Vikings! 1000 Years: Make the Journey, as Newfoundland and Labrador is featured today on Life Network's Canadian Living Television.

"This nationally broadcast program will showcase the province and tell of our rich history. It will promote to Canada our plans to commemorate the arrival of the first Europeans, the Vikings, to North America 1000 years ago, right here in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Furey. "The Viking saga is fascinating, as it appeals to national and international audiences. We are confident that Vikings! 1000 Years: Make the Journey will be a great success, and we are extremely pleased to benefit from this national exposure."

The show will feature L'Anse aux Meadows, details of the Viking calender of events, and a newly designed Viking sweater commissioned by the program. Canadian Living Television airs on Life Network, channel 36 at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. local time, Wednesday, November 24, 1999. This feature is a result of a recent media trip to the province, promoting our Debut 2000 celebrations and Vikings! 1000 Years: Make the Journey events.
