(Tourism, Culture and Recreation)

NOTE TO EDITORS:

On Wednesday, October 6, as part of a press trip and media briefing for national and international media, the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation will host an evening of dinner and entertainment. The aim of the event is to provide participating media with a preview of plans for Newfoundland and Labrador's Millennium celebrations. This special "New Year's Eve" party will showcase part of the Debut 2000 program, which will see the province ring in the New Year before any other place in North America.

The event is being held at Theatre at St. John's Lane (formally known as The Loft, Duckworth Street) from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The evening will be sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation in partnership with Maxxim Vacations, Anchor Events, Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador and the Avalon Convention and Visitors Bureau.

THIS EVENT IS NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. Local media are invited to attend, and are requested to RSVP by Monday, October 4, at 12 noon. Please note that limited space is available, and will be organized on a first come-first served basis.

Media contact/RSVP: Elizabeth Matthews, Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, (709) 729-0857.
