Market Highlights:
Retail gasoline prices throughout most markets in the province
increased by three cents per litre (cpl) in May 1999. Since April 7, 1999, retail prices
have increased by seven cpl and, as indicated in the previous months Gasoline Market
Watch, is comparable to increases throughout other Canadian markets.
Retail prices in St. John's had increased by three cpl on May 4, 1999,
and decreased by two cpl on May 25, in response to competitive pressures from the
Conception Bay South region where prices are currently reported to be 56.9
cpl.
From April 27, 1999, to May 25, 1999, refinery wholesale prices, as
measured by the Montreal refinery rack price, had decreased by 1.9 cpl.
Crude oil prices have marginally fallen from $17.81 US per barrel to
$17.14 US per barrel over the same period.
