Energy; M.J. Ervin & Associates; Oil Buyers Guide
Market Highlights:
Retail gasoline prices throughout most markets in the province increased
by 4.0 cents per litre (cpl) in April 1999. This compares to a Canadian average increase
of 6.8 cents per litre over the same period.
The increase was in response to recovering crude oil prices as a result
of a recent agreement among world oil producers to curtail production by two million
barrels per day.
Unplanned refinery outages in the Western United States also had an
impact on retail prices. These refinery outages resulted in tight supply situation in that
region and as product was diverted to supply the area prices increased throughout most
North American markets.
