$6 Million for Meditech System Joan Marie Aylward, Minister of Health and Community Services, announced today that $6 million would be allocated to acquire Meditech software and related infrastructure for the Western, Labrador, and Peninsulas Boards. "This software has been successfully implemented by all other regional boards in the province and will provide these three boards with an integrated computer system to support their financial, clinical and other operational needs," said the minister. The minister said this system will allow these boards to produce financial information on a more timely basis. Other boards have had success with this system and now there will be a single province-wide standard. The Meditech system will allow staff to use the system wherever they are in the province. It builds a broader base of technical expertise, and enables province-wide efficiencies in other areas, such as disaster recovery planning, standards development and procurement, as well as potential implementation of a province-wide unique personal identifier. The new Meditech system will replace current software which is not Year 2000 compliant. The system has a reputation for meeting deadlines and can commit to an implementation schedule to work towards Year 2000 compliance.
