Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Charlottetown Sanitary Landfill and Access Road
Proponent: Town of Charlottetown

The proponent plans to construct a new sanitary landfill and access road for the Town of Charlottetown, Labrador. The access road will extend beyond the existing sanitary landfill in an eastern direction away from the town a distance of approximately 900 metres to the new sanitary landfill site. Construction is planned to begin in September 1999 and will take approximately five weeks to complete. The undertaking was registered on July 22, 1999; public comments must be received by August 27, 1999; and the minister's decision is due on September 5, 1999.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has decided that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required for the:

Forest Mgmt Dist. 15 Amendment (White Wash Pd/Serpentine)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited

Old Mans Pond Cottage Access Road
Proponent: Daniel B. Anderson

These projects has been released from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act.
