MINISTERIAL STATEMENT
Beaton Tulk
Minister of Development and Rural Renewal

November 23, 1998

Mr. Speaker: Earlier today the Coast of Bays Corporation, a Regional Economic Development Board from the Provinces South Coast launched a major promotional campaign to attract investors to their area. This promotional package is another excellent example of the REDB process at work. The Coast of Bays Corporation has put together a quality package and a strategy to bring investors to their area.

Mr. Speaker:  This group of volunteers have identified opportunities in their area and are working to advance the economies of their area. Another important thing to remember is that these Boards are independent bodies from government, this is a grassroots organization for people to help encourage economic growth in their areas. It is not government telling people what has to be done, it is government listening to the people who know what they want for their area.

Mr. Speaker: Like other people in rural Newfoundland and Labrador the people involved in the Coast of Bays Corporation are strongly committed to revitalizing the economy of their area. In the coming weeks they will be aggressively seeking new investors by targeting companies involved in agriculture, the fishery, cultural industries, tourism, information technology and aquaculture.

Mr. Speaker: I ask all members to join with me in wishing the Coast of Bays Corporation well with their promotional campaign and their economic plan to expand and diversify the economy of their area.
