The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Mount Pearl Glacier will be the site of the 1997 Spring Provincial Gymnastics Championships which will be held Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17.

Approximately 100 gymnasts from across the province will be competing at the Level I meet. Participating clubs include Avalon Gymnastics and Cygnus from St. John's, Campia from Mount Pearl, CBS, Clarenville, Gander Academy, Glovertown, the Goose Bay Lab Lites, Lewisporte Gymdandies, Humbler Tumblers (Corner Brook), and the Labrador City Snowbirds. This year, for the first time in an artistic gymnastics meet, nine special olympians will be competing.

Competition begins Friday evening at 6:30 and runs until 9:30. On Saturday the opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. and the competition runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The meet hosted by Campia Gymnastics club, is open to the public.
