August 27, 1997 Ocean Net Launch On Monday, September 1 Ocean Net is holding a news conference at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 1 at Topsail Beach in Conception Bay to announce its official launch as an oceans conservation organization. Ocean Net is a new grass roots organization whose goal is to instill an ocean conservation ethic by raising oceans awareness worldwide. Ocean Net hopes to partner with diving clubs, other environmental groups, community and service groups, the Coast Guard and government to implement a series of environmental initiatives, including the retrieval of lost fishing nets and the implementation of an "Adopt a Beach" Program for schools, and "Trash Ashore" program for boaters. The news conference is part of the Ocean Net launch scheduled to take place at Topsail Beach from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on September 4.
