New Campsite Reservation System for Provincial Parks

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced the establishment of a new telephone reservation system for campsites in the provincial parks. "This new system is a part of our overall effort to improve customer service and to optimize the camping opportunities available to the public," Ms. Kelly said.

Persons using this system can reserve a campsite on a nightly, weekly or monthly basis, in 13 of the province's 14 camping parks. Duley Lake Provincial Park in western Labrador has not been included in the campsite reservation system. A nonrefundable $3 reservation fee will be charged each time a person uses the system. However, should the caller make more than one reservation during the same telephone call, the fee will only apply once.

The camping fee for the first night of stay of each reservation must also be paid at the time of booking. Visa or MasterCard will be accepted for these fees.

Reservations are to made by calling the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation's information telephone system at 1-800-563-NFLD, or Parks and Natural Areas Division's campsite vacancy and special event information telephone system at 1-800-866-CAMP.

The system will operate from July 17 to September 1, 1997, for: Blow Me Down Provincial Park, Pinware River Provincial Park and Sir Richard Squires Memorial Provincial Park. It will remain in operation until September 28, 1997, for: Barachois Pond Provincial Park, Butter Pot Provincial Park, J. T. Cheeseman Provincial Park, Dildo Run Provincial Park, Frenchman's Cove Provincial Park, La Manche Provincial Park, Lockston Path Provincial Park, Notre Dame Provincial Park, Pistolet Bay Provincial Park and Sandbanks Provincial Park.

All reservations must be made at least three days prior to the first night that the camper wishes to stay in the park.

This system will be managed and operated by the Tourism Destination Management System (TDMS) with all reservations being handled by Telelink Message Exchange, a division of The Call Centre Inc.
