Kevin Noble reprises role as Joey Smallwood in: The Great Confederation Debate Well-known Newfoundland actor Kevin Noble will officially premiere a new one-act show called The Great Confederation Debate on Sunday, July 6, at the Colonial Building in St. John's. The show profiles the historic role that Newfoundland Premier Joseph R. Smallwood played in the period leading up to confederation with Canada in 1949. Much of the play is directly transcribed from the National Convention debates on the issue. Mr. Noble is no stranger to the role of Premier Smallwood, having played him in the highly successful Rising Tide Theatre production of Joey that toured across Canada. Another Newfoundland actor Randy Follett is featured as Major Peter Cashin in the new production while the rest of the cast is comprised of high school students Darcy Fitzpatrick, Michael Furlong, Tom Dunne and Greg Stacey. The Colonial Building in St. John's is the site of the former provincial legislature, and prior to that, housed the colonial government in which the Confederation debates took place. Please note that seating for all performances in the Colonial Building is limited to a maximum of 50 people. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the L.S.P.U. Hall in St. John's. Further performances of The Great Confederation Debate are scheduled to take place at the L.S.P.U. Hall in St. John's on August 16 and 17.
