NOTE TO EDITORS:

Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen Attending Matthew Landfall Event Premier Brian Tobin wishes to advise the media that Len Scott, Superintendent of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fisherman will attend the Matthew Landfall Event in Bonavista, and represent the Mission.

Based in Penzance, Cornwall, England, the Mission initiated the "Fly the Flag" campaign in 1995 during the height of the international fisheries dispute. The campaign involved the display of Canadian flags on UK registered vessels located near the South West coast of England and proved tremendously successful in drawing international attention to Canada's position in the dispute.

The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen has an important historical connection to Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1896, the Mission sponsored the voyage that brought Sir Wilfred Grenfell to the province.

Mr. Scott who is accompanied by his wife Maureen, will be in Bonavista on June 24 and in St. John's on June 25 to July 3. Mr. Scott will be available for interviews on those dates.

Contact: Laura Cochrane, Director of Communications, Tourism, Culture, and Recreation, 729-0928.
