Tourism Awareness Month Schedule of Launches OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF TOURISM AWARENESS MONTH-LABRADOR: A wine and cheese reception will be the official launch for Tourism Awareness Month. It will begin at 7 pm, May 26 at the Arts and Culture Centre in Labrador City. Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation Sandra C. Kelly will officially launch Tourism Awareness Month, and Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador board member, John Dicks will also speak. Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador's Ambassador of Hospitality Awards will be presented to Nick McGrath and Kathy Crotty, for their contributions to the promotion of tourism in Labrador. Labrador�s first annual Gwen Ryan Ambassador Award will be presented as well. Nick McGrath will also receive will also receive Professional Certification. Entertainment will be provided by Labrador Black Spruce, the Labrador West Community Choir, and Collage. This event is being hosted by Pigeon Inlet Productions at Hotel St. John's on Monday, May 26 beginning at 8 pm. Edna Hall, Provincial Director of Canadian Heritage, and President of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador Liam Sneyd will be the speakers for the evening. The evening's events will also include the presentation of an Ambassador of Hospitality award to one of this province's most colourful and multi-faceted entertainers. The St. Pat's Dancers (children's group) may also perform (TBC). CENTRAL NEWFOUNDLAND LAUNCH: The reception for the Salmonid Interpretation Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor is the site of the launch festivities for the Central region May 26th at 3 pm. Entertainment will be provided by Danette Eddy, and the Mug-Uppers. Rod French, President of the Exploits Valley Tourism Association and Bart Philpott, Vice President of Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador, are the guest speakers for this event. Ambassador of Hospitality Awards will be presented. In addition, Professional Certification, national occupational recognition, in food and beverage service will be presented to Joan Corbin, an employee of the Mt. Peyton Hotel, the first in the province to receive such certification. Each of these associations will hold interviews during the week to inform the public about their associations and tourism awareness month activities.
