The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

The Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation will be holding its annual general meeting Saturday, May 24. Delegates from 11 regions throughout the province will meet at Sinbads Hotel in Gander, to set the direction for high school sports in this province for the coming year.

Once again funding will be a major item on the agenda. Another issue which will create a lot of discussion will be the school reorganization. School closures and amalgamation will have a major effect on the way high school programs will be run, particularly at the zone and regional level. Other issues which will be addressed include the federation's sponsorships with Keyin Technical College and the School Milk Foundation, tournament technical standards and policies. The host schools for the federations's 33 provincial tournaments for the 1997-98 school year will also be decided at this meeting.

Wayne Hounsell from Stephenville and Bill Hurley from Mount Pearl will remain on the executive of the federation for another year in the capacities of V/P tournaments and V/P administration respectively. Positions up for re-election include president and vice-president finance.

Winners and runners up for the federation's five major awards, as well as the 11 regional recognition awards will be honoured. Awards to be presented include the Coach of the Year Award, Coaching Service Award, Honor Award, Brother G.I. Moore Male and Female Athletes of the Year. The student athlete awards are also sponsored by Newfoundland Power, who provides a $750 scholarship for each winner.
