Public asked opinion on future operation of province's Arts and Culture Centres

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that public consultation sessions will be held throughout the province to obtain public input regarding the future operation of the six provincial arts and culture centres.

"Government believes that public input into this process is critical to the success of this project," Ms. Kelly said. "Users of the centres have a right to bring their concerns, needs and interests to the forefront of this process. I invite and encourage all individuals and groups interested in the future operation of arts and culture centres to attend these meetings."

On April 16, 1997, the minister announced that a study of the organizational structure of the province's arts and culture centres would begin. Graeme Page Associates of Toronto was awarded the contract to provide an analysis of possible alternatives in the centres' restructuring of operations. This firm specializes in arts management consulting and has extensive experience in operational and market analysis of performing arts centres, feasibility studies, and surveys in all arts disciplines.

D. W. Knight Associates of St. John's, who specializes in economic development and municipal planning, is the sub-consultant for this project.

D.W. Knight Associates will host the sessions at the province's arts and cultures centres in Corner Brook, Stephenville, Grand Falls- Windsor, Gander, St. John's and Labrador City. These sessions will discuss the possible alternatives in the restructuring of the operations of the arts and culture centres.
