1997 provincial parks fee structure announced

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that the base fee structure for using provincial parks this year will remain unchanged from last year. The new fees, however, represent the inclusion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) that came into effect on April 1 of this year.

"We will continue to offer the popular discounts introduced last year, which represent a significant savings over the fee structure from a few years ago," Ms. Kelly said. There will be a 10 per cent discount on a weekly pass, a 15 per cent discount on a monthly pass and a 20 per cent discount on a seasonal pass for camping.

The provincial park fees for 1997 are as follows:

     Unserviced - $9.00 / per night
     Partially Serviced - $11.00 / per night
     Vehicle Entry Fee - $4.00 / per day - $16.00 / seasonal
     Storage Fee - $6.00 / per day
Boat Hire Fee - $8.00 / per half day

In addition there will be admission fees at the Cape St. Mary's Interpretation Centre, to help offset the cost of operating the new centre and expanded education programs. These fees are in line with those charged at similar centres throughout the province. There is no fee for admission to the Cape St. Mary's site area.

Cape St. Mary's fees are as follows:

          Adult - $3.00 / day
          Youth - $1.00 / day
          Family - $7.00 / day
     Early Bird Pass - $5.00 / adult
(Valid through May) $2.00 / youth
     Regular Season Pass - $10.00 / adult
                                   $4.00 / youth

The new fee structure is effective immediately.
