June 12, 1997 (Forest Resources and Agrifoods) Tree seedling planting project for Gander District The Minister of Forestry Resources and Agrifoods, Beaton Tulk, and Sandra Kelly, MHA - Gander District, are pleased to announce the award of a $43,437.50 contract for tree seedling planting in the Jonathans Pond area. The successful bid for this project went to Tercan Holdings Inc., of Campbellton. They will undertake to plant 250 hectares with various species of tree seedlings over a five-week period. Ms. Kelly was pleased with the contract, stating: "These projects are important to this district because so much of the industry here is forestry related. It's through reforestation that we will ensure these industries last." Mr. Tulk added: "The areas to be planted were harvested in the early part of this decade and scarified just last year. Whenever possible, our department sees to it that the turnover time between harvest and reforestation is as short as can be." The project is scheduled to start on June 16, 1997 and will last for five weeks. Twenty people will gain employment from the $43,437.50 contract.
