Comments on review of policing in province

Finance Minister Paul Dicks commented today on the situation in the province concerning provincial policing.

"The government has made it clear that we are carrying out a program review process which examines in detail all programs and services of the provincial government. This is necessary and essential if a proper program review is to take place. The government must ensure that public monies are spent wisely. In order to do so, a complete review of policing services is required in the same manner as other programs such as Social Services and Education.

"The government will be consulting the people of the province before making any decisions on program review, including policing needs and services. We invite the input of the people of the province in the pre-budget consultation process which will be starting on January 31. No decisions will be made until the opinions of the people of the province have been heard and evaluated in the public budget consultation process."
