The boys and girls 2A island volleyball championships are being held in Milltown and Carmanville. The provincial 2A volleyball championships will take place two weeks from now in Goose Bay. For financial reasons, any time a Labrador school is awarded a provincial tournament to host an island tournament is held with only the island winner earning the right to advance to the provincial.

The boys 2A tournament will be hosted by Greenwood Academy in Milltown. They will compete in Division A against Little Hearts Ease School, Fitzgerald Academy (English Hr. They will square off against William Mercer Academy (Dover), St. Augustines Central High (Plum Point), Berney Memorial (Salt Pond) and Grandy River Collegiate (Burnt Islands).

The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. followed by round robin games in both divisions. The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals to be played Saturday morning followed by the championship game.

Carmanville School Complex is the host school for the 11 team girls 2A island tournament. The first match of the tournament is scheduled for 11 a.m., Friday. A total of 14 matches will be played on Friday at both Carmanville School Complex and Gill Memorial in Musgrave Harbour. The remaining 11 round robin games will be played Saturday morning.

Teams vying for the right to travel to Goose Bay for the provincial final include: Division A, Carmanville School, St. Joseph's (Lamaline), St. Michael's All Grade (Arnolds Cove), St. Boniface High (Bell Island), Greenwood Academy (Milltown), Bishop O'Neil Collegiate (Brigus). As in all provincial tournaments, a large banner will be presented to each championship team, as well as gold and silver medals. The Keyin Sportsmanship Award will also be presented to one individual at each tournament.
