The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

St. John's to host Eastern Canadian Juvenile Basketball Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will host this year's Eastern Canadian Juvenile Championship in St. John's, July 26-28. Games will be played at the Torbay Recreation Centre and Memorial University on Friday. All games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be played at Memorial University.

Teams entered in the boys division include: Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Teams entered in the girls division include: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland "A" and Newfoundland "B".

Tournament and day passes may be purchased at each of the venues during the weekend.

N.L.B.A President, Glenn Normore, predicts a very high calibre of basketball during the weekend in both the boys and girls category. Coaches George Power, Peter Benoit and Tony Reardon (male) and Paul Byrne and Kellie Baker (female) have done a tremendous job in selecting and preparing their teams for the event. The boys team will consist of: Mike Dawe of Corner Brook; Saj Joseph and Andy Moss of Deer Lake, Vince Pickett of Fogo Island, Kevin English of Placentia Bay; Peter White of Carbonear; John Gibbons, Aubrey Hearn, Frank Power and Jeremy Kielly of St. Mary's Bay; Chad Pennell of Trepassey; Mike Pittman and Andrew Sinclair of St. John's.

The girls "A" team consists of the following athletes: Katie Mulcahy of Mount Pearl; Laura Conway, Alexandrea Mackey, Jillian Abbott, Erica Stokes and Donna Tuff of St. John's; Kelly King of Shea Heights; Angie Bohike and Sandi Ennis of Placentia; Ruth Jacobs of Fogo Island; Kim Styles of Stephenville; Kerri Highmore and Heidi Park of Deer Lake. The girls "B" team is made up of the following athletes: Janelle Galivan of Mount Pearl; Andrea Hogan of St. John's; Diane Doyle and Barbara Duffenais of Stephenville; Jeanine Chubbs of Placentia; Jill Nicholls of Deer Lake; Christa Ellis of Glenwood; Jillian Halleran, Marsha Waddleton and Candace Curtis of Trepassey.
