Try outs for Midget Elite Girls and Boys Provincial Volleyball Teams

The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is pleased to announce that there will be try outs for the Provincial Midget Elite Volleyball teams during the following times:

     Western Newfoundland:
     
     Girls:    Corner Brook at G.C. Rowe Junior High
               Friday May 31, 7-9 p.m.
               Saturday, June 1, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $20 per athlete
     

     Boys:     Corner Brook at G.C. Rowe Junior High
               Saturday, June 1, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $15 per athlete

     Central Newfoundland

     Girls:    Gander at St.Paul's High School
               Friday June 7, 7-9 p.m.
               Saturday, June 8, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $20 per athlete
               
     Boys:     Gander at St.Paul's High School
               Friday June 14, 7-9 p.m.
               Saturday, June 15, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $20 per athlete
     
     Eastern Newfoundland
          
     Girls:    St.John's at Torbay Recreation Centre
               Friday, June 21, 6-8 p.m.
               Saturday, June 22, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $20 per athlete

     Boys:     St.John's at Torbay Recreation Centre
               Friday, June 21, 8-10 p.m.
               Saturday, June 22, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-5 p.m.
               Registration Fee - $20 per athlete

The girls team will be coached by Karen Murphy with assistant coaches Doug Ledrew and Eric Hiscock, while the boys team will be coached by Alvin Dominie and John Abbott. Athletes that are selected to the teams will represent the province at the Quebec Plus tournament to be held in Montreal, August 3-4, 1996. Athletes must be born in 1980 or earlier to be eligible for the team.

Athletes may register in advance by calling the NLVA office at (709) 576-0817, or they may register during the first session of the camp they plan to attend. Athletes on the west Coast may also register in advance at Sports Plus located at the Corner Brook Plaza.
