Provincial Archives Unveils New National Convention Exhibit

Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will officially open a first-ever National Convention exhibit at Colonial Building on Thursday, October 24 at 3:30 p.m..

September 11, 1996 marked the 50th anniversary of the official opening of the National Convention in Newfoundland. The National Convention and its subsequent debates and meetings were held in the old House of Assembly Chamber of Colonial Building. Sandra Kelly will officially open the new exhibit in the same chambers.

The National Convention was formed to examine Newfoundland's (then) social and economic conditions and the country's finances. The Convention subsequently brought forward recommendations for the best form of future government for Newfoundland. Date: Thursday, October 24, 1996
