NOTE TO EDITORS:

Media are advised that there will be a news conference this Friday August 9, 1996 (12 noon) at the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club in Long Pond, Manuels. The Yacht Club will discuss the extent of their involvement with Flotilla '97 which is being held in accordance with the Cabot 500 Celebrations.

On hand for the announcement will be Brian Tobin, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador; Sandra Kelly, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation; former Premier Clyde Wells, Honourary Chair of the Flotilla; past Commodore Carl Robbins, Chair of the RNYC Host Committee and Bob O'Brien, Chair of the Toronto Flotilla Planning Committee.

The Flotilla is a non-profit organization that has formed with the intent of bringing approximately 150 yachts and upwards of 2,000 people from the Great Lakes region and the Eastern Seaboard of the U.S. to Newfounland in 1997. It has gained tremendous exposure at boat shows all over North America and the U.K.
