Silviculture project in Baie Verte District
Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, is
pleased to announce the award of a $39,750 contract to carry out
silviculture work at Middle Arm Ridge in Baie Verte District.
Michael King of Outer Cove was awarded the contract for the
thinning of 75 hectares of natural regeneration forest at Middle
Ridge. "Thinning the overstocked young stands will improve
the overall health and viability of these stands," said Mr.
Tulk. "Selective thinning is a standard silvicultural
practise that reduces the competition between seedlings, an
investment which will enhance the overall health of the
forest."
Mr. Tulk says the project will get under way by mid July, and
will involve a total of eight weeks of activity ending in mid
September. Ten people are expected to be employed.
