Silviculture project awarded in Humber Valley Rick Woodford, MHA - Humber Valley, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a contract for pre-commercial thinning in Humber Valley District. "This project involves the thinning of young, overly dense softwood stands to reduce rotation age," said Mr. Woodford. The minister added: "This reduces competition for light, moisture and nutrients, and allows for more concentrated growth for the remaining crop trees." A $62,480 contract was awarded to Samson Holding of Harbour Breton. The project involves 110 hectares in the Salt Water Pond/Chain Lakes area. Twelve people will be employed for approximately eight weeks. The project will be under way in early July, and will conclude early September 1996. Contact: Anna Buffinga, (709) 729-3750.
