Site preparation contract for Brink's Pond, Lewisporte District valued at $22,100

Melvin Penney, MHA - Lewisporte, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a $22,100 contract to prepare a cutover site near Brink's Pond for planting.

Quest Incorporated of Birchy Bay was awarded the contract to prepare a 100 hectare area for tree seedling planting. Mr. Penney says the project will get under way by mid-July 1996 (approximately), and will involve two weeks of activity.

"This 100 hundred hectare area was clearcut for sawlogs and pulpwood by commercial operators in Forest Management District #8," said Mr. Penney, adding "the area will be replanted with seedlings of the same species that were previously harvested, with the objective of maintaining the integrity of the ecosystem. This type of overall planting strategy will assist in keeping our forest healthy and ensuring the viability of our forest industry."
