Orphan Industries, a member of the D.F. Barnes Ltd. group of companies from St. John’s, is this year’s winner of the Business Development Bank of Canada’s Canadian Innovation Award for Productivity Improvement. The company received the honour at the 2007 Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) Canadian Innovation Awards gala ceremony at the St. John’s Convention Centre Monday evening.

Minister Announces $30,000 in Funding to Association
of Cultural Industries
The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation, recently met with George Murray, Executive Director of the
Association of Cultural Industries (ACI). An important voice for artists
and cultural workers in Newfoundland and Labrador, ACI was recently
granted $30,000 under the Cultural Economic Development Program.

Another Successful Year at Boston
Minister Rideout and Crystal Bourne of Academy Canada at the
Newfoundland and Labrador reception in Boston. Crystal was the winner of
a seafood cooking competition held in February. The event was sponsored
by the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Crystal was one of the
chefs at the reception.
