Thanks to investments of more than $613,000 from the Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada, Appalachian Chalets and RV, operated by Eltoq Developments Inc., is upgrading an existing Corner Brook recreational vehicle (RV) park and adding new accommodations to attract more visitors to the region.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced a repayable contribution of $218,476 through the department’s Business Investment Program for the project. Gudie Hutchings, Member of Parliament for Long Range Mountains, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced a repayable investment of $365,000 from ACOA’s Business Development Program for this expansion project.

Construction is currently underway to build six chalets and upgrade the RV park. Appalachian Chalets and RV is in a prime location for visitors to Corner Brook, with the site near snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle trails, cross country and downhill skiing, as well as a variety of festivals and events which take place throughout the year.

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation also supported Appalachian Chalets and RV with a non-repayable contribution of $30,275 through the Business Development Support program for marketing plan development. This funding will assist Appalachian Chalets and RV in developing and implementing a three-year marketing strategy to reach its target market of out-of-province guests.

These investments build on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region’s tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs across the region. This bold new approach is in line with Canada’s Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-10 global tourism destination by 2025.

Support for the tourism industry delivers on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.
