The following is being distributed at the request of The Rooms Corporation:

The Rooms Corporation launched a companion catalogue Monday for the exhibition Beaumont-Hamel and the Trail of the Caribou: Newfoundlanders and Labradorians at War and at Home 1914-1949. Sylvain Vinet, Region Head, Eastern Canada Region, CIBC, joined Dean Brinton, CEO The Rooms Corporation to make the announcement.

In June 2016, CIBC contributed $100,000 to The Rooms, Where Once They Stood We Stand Capital Fundraising Campaign, enabling the creation of the First World War exhibition catalogue. The award-winning exhibition documents and explores the effects of the First World War on Newfoundland and Labrador — on those who fought, on the families and communities left behind; and on the politics, economy and future of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The publication mirrors the exhibition and includes first-hand experiences of the people who were involved in and transformed by the conflict. These stories are supported by the participants’ authentic objects and archival documents, many of which were lent or donated by people across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The catalogue is being distributed to schools across the province and will also be available for purchase by the public exclusively through The Rooms gift shop.

Quotes
“Thank you to CIBC for recognizing and supporting this exhibition, and helping us commemorate the First World War. Exhibitions that help tell the history of Newfoundland and Labrador’s contribution to the Great War would not be possible without support from corporate donors. We are grateful that this companion catalogue will be available to schools across the province, so many more youth can learn and gain some insight into the sacrifices that were made over 100 years ago.”
Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore
Minister Responsible for The Rooms Corporation

“CIBC is very proud to partner with The Rooms on this important project that will save the memories and commemorate the sacrifices made by Canadians during the First World War. We are so pleased to see its completion and look forward to school children benefiting from all the hard work that went into it to preserving this very significant part of our history.”
Sylvain Vinet
Senior Vice President and Region Head, Eastern Canada, CIBC.

“Education and outreach is a cornerstone of The Rooms. This companion catalogue made available to schools throughout the province will expand students’ engagement with the exhibition, extending the possibilities for exploring this important part of their history. CIBC’s generous contribution has enabled the creation of this very important publication which honours and remembers past generations and educates future ones.”
