Motor Registration Division Supports Clients in Accessing Services Online

A pilot project, launched earlier this week at Motor Registration Division (MRD) in Mount Pearl, encourages clients to avail of eServices and take advantage of online discounts. This new service option will help reduce customer wait times and improve efficiency, reflecting government’s commitment to enhance service delivery through a digital-by-design approach.

Computer terminals are located near the main entrance of MRD Mount Pearl and, with support from staff, customers are guided through eServices to complete their transaction. If the transaction can be conducted online, clients will be encouraged to use the terminals.

Other recent improvements made to reduce wait times include online appointment bookings for a specific day and time; text message alerts that indicate the customer’s place in line; email notifications of driver’s licence and vehicle registration renewals; and a new secure driver’s licence and photo ID that supports the use of electronic applications and forms.

Those who do not wish to avail of eServices can still follow regular MRD processes, and frontline services will not be affected. Clients are reminded that there is a discount offered for renewing driver’s licences and vehicle registrations online.

MRD Mount Pearl is the busiest location in the province, providing in-person service to an average of 8,660 clients per month. It is estimated that half of walk-in traffic at MRD could receive the same service online, and many others could reduce their wait times through these features.

Initiatives such as this deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

Quote
“By guiding customers through the process, our goal is that they will be more encouraged to complete transactions using eServices at home. Along with other improvements Service NL has made at Motor Registration Division in Mount Pearl, including online appointment bookings and online driver’s licence and vehicle registration reminders, this project will reduce wait times at the counter, improve service delivery and upgrade the client experience. I look forward to offering this supportive service option at other locations throughout the province.”
