North American Occupational Safety and Health Week Launched in Province

In recognition of North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week 2018 (May 6-12), Bernard Davis, Parliamentary Secretary for Service NL, joined officials from WorkplaceNL, members of the local chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE), as well as representatives from safety groups and the employer and labour sectors, to raise the official flag. The theme for NAOSH Week 2018 is Make Safety a Habit.

Today’s event included addresses from various leaders in the occupational health and safety sectors, as well as a keynote address by Dr. Stephen Bornstein, SafetyNet, Memorial University.

NAOSH Week promotes safety and health awareness, education and enforcement and has grown to include all of Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Quotes
“I want to thank the members of the local chapter of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering for once again volunteering their time to plan and promote NAOSH Week. It’s important to recognize that this local group founded the week, and it is now celebrated throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico. This week presents a great opportunity to raise awareness of being safe at work, at home and in our communities.”
Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh
Minister of Service NL

“NAOSH Week reminds us all to focus on strengthening our commitment to ensuring injuries and illness are prevented in the workplace and at home. By working together to educate, promote and champion the topics of health and safety, we can positively influence the lives of our coworkers, our friends and our families and that’s truly what NAOSH week represents.”
