The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Thorburn Lake Quarry Expansion                                 (Reg. 1956)
Proponent: Shoal Harbour Sand Products Ltd.

The proponent is proposing a 5.3 hectare expansion of an existing quarry located 19 kilometres west of Clarenville and along the eastern side of Southwest River. The existing quarry is 9.767 hectares in size and the expansion is proposed for three separate areas that will adjoin the main quarry area. The expansion will allow the development of a new three hectare quarry area which contains sand and gravel resources. Two additional expansion areas contain quarry materials that have been previously stockpiled. The quarry utilizes a five kilometre access road which intersects with the Trans Canada Highway. The construction and operation of the expansion is scheduled to commence in August 2018.

The undertaking was registered on April 12, 2018; the deadline for public comments is May 18, 2018; and the minister’s decision is due by May 27, 2018.

Cataracts Pond ATV Trail                                 (Reg.1955)
Proponent: Gerald Healey

The proponent proposes to construct an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trail to a remote cabin at Cataracts Pond, near Cataracts Provincial Park, off Route 91 Old Placentia Bay Highway in the St. Mary’s Bay area. The proposed ATV trail will be approximately one kilometre in length and three metres wide.

The undertaking was registered on April 12, 2018; the deadline for public comments is May 18, 2018; and the minister’s decision is due by May 27, 2018.
