Media Advisory: Minister Parsons Attending Correctional Officer Recruit Training Final Ceremony

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety, will bring greetings at the final ceremony for the 2018 Correctional Officer Recruit Training. The ceremony will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, March 28) at 11:30 a.m. at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre Powerplex, 90 Crosbie Rd, St. John’s.

There are 13 recruits, seven females and six males, successfully completing the program today.

Correctional officers work at five correctional facilities throughout the province and two detention centres located in Corner Brook and St. John’s. Recruits will begin on the job training next week after receiving significant training in Mental Health First Aid, Use of Force /Self Defence, Aboriginal Cultural Diversity by the St. John’s Native Friendship Centre, Respectful Workplace in consultation with the Women in Resource and Development Corporation, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) with Eastern Health, Autism Awareness, LGBTQ2+ Awareness and Workplace Wellness.
