Media Advisory: Minister Haggie Participating in Panel Discussion at National Opioid Symposium

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will attend a national Opioid Symposium September 5-6. The symposium will take place at the Globe and Mail Centre in Toronto.

On September 6, Minister Haggie will participate in a panel discussion titled Responding to the Opioid Crisis. The minister will highlight the province’s considerable work to date on the Provincial Opioid Action Plan and Towards Recovery: The Mental Health and Addictions Action Plan for Newfoundland and Labrador. The discussion starts at 10:30 a.m. EDT (12:00 p.m. NDT) and will be available via webcast .

The symposium is being organized by Health Canada, in association with the Globe and Mail and with support from the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. More than 200 participants are expected to attend including federal, provincial and territorial ministers and officials; researchers; health experts and medical practitioners; members of law enforcement; public safety and corrections communities; and individuals with lived and living experience related to opioid use.
