June 6, 2018

The location for today’s launch of a new harm reduction initiative at 12:00 p.m. has been changed due to inclement weather. The launch will now take place at the Aids Committee of Newfoundland and Labrador office, 47 Janeway Place, St. John’s.

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, will be joined by Bernard Davis, MHA for Virginia Waters – Pleasantville; Mayor Danny Breen and Councillor Hope Jamieson of the City of St. John’s; and Jane Henderson representing the St. John’s Community Action Group on Fentanyl.

The harm reduction initiative is led by the Action Group, a partnership between the Department of Health and Community Services, the City of St. John’s, Eastern Health, and community outreach organizations, and will provide metal sharps kiosks and boxes in public locations throughout the City of St. John’s to facilitate the safe disposal of needles.
