May 17, 2018

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, today released the external review of the Central Regional Health Authority. The review was completed as a result of concerns brought forward to the department about the governance and management of the health authority.

Dr. Peter Vaughan conducted the review which includes a series of recommendations focused on governance, leadership, clinical management, relationships, succession planning, and community engagement. The department is currently reviewing Dr. Vaughan’s recommendations.

While the department completes its review, a committee will be created to oversee implementation of the report’s recommendations pertaining to the health authority. It will consist of representatives from the Central Health’s Board of Trustees, Memorial University’s Faculty of Medicine and the department. Dr. Vaughan will be engaged to act as an advisor to the committee.

Minister Haggie will be available to the media to discuss the review today (Thursday, May 17) at 3:30 p.m. in front of the House of Assembly, East Block, Confederation Building.
