The Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources, will lead a tour and discuss new and ongoing research trials at the Western Agriculture Centre: Agriculture Research Station on Monday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m. The facility, featuring research trials of the department’s Agriculture Production and Research Division in collaboration with Grenfell Campus, Memorial University, and Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, is located off the Trans-Canada Highway, Pynn’s Brook. Following the tour the Minister will oversee the harvest of Winter Wheat in Pasadena which will supply local dairy farmers with high quality cereal grain.
The tour will also include the Department of Fisheries and Land Resource’s new Agri-Truck, which is an important component of the Provincial Government’s Way Forward commitment to increase Newfoundland and Labrador’s food self-sufficiency to at least 20 per cent by 2022.
