The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, is thanking the many individuals, including public service employees, for their response to the flooding in the western region of the island that washed out roads, threatened communities and caused significant damage.

“The unwavering commitment of Newfoundland and Labrador’s public service employees to provide critical services to residents and communities was on full display in response to the recent flooding in the western region. Whether employees were re-connecting communities or ensuring access to vital services, they rose to the challenge in incredibly difficult conditions.

“We can be proud that we have such professional, hardworking public service employees. Their work was supported by tremendous contributions by volunteers, municipalities and first responders that stepped-up and reached out to those who were impacted.

“We also want to thank contractors for mobilizing their teams and working long hours under challenging circumstances. There are still several communities that remain vulnerable to the consequences of this weather event and we will continue to support them as they respond and recover from the impacts to their homes, communities and daily lives.

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are well-known for their resilience and quick actions to support their neighbours in times of need. I thank everyone for the collective effort that was put forth.”
