The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minster of Education and Early Childhood Development is recognizing February 11-17 as Education Week and Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week in Newfoundland and Labrador by attending a proclamation signing this morning at Laval High School in Placentia. This year’s theme is Believe and Achieve.

Celebrated since 1936, Education Week recognizes the work of the two provincial school districts, school board trustees, school councils, support staff and all volunteers who are dedicated to providing quality education in Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week recognizes the important work of teachers, administrators and school staff and how their contributions and commitment to education are valued and appreciated.

Quotes
“Our government continues to be committed to providing students with the best possible foundation for learning and future success. Over the past two years I have had the privilege of visiting over 160 of our province’s schools, and I have witnessed first-hand the invaluable contributions made to our school communities by teachers, support staff, district staff, school council members, and community volunteers. This week is an ideal time to recognize all of these individuals and to thank them for positively impacting the lives of our students.”
Honourable Dale Kirby
Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development

“As President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils, I am exceptionally proud of all the school councils across the province who impact the lives of countless students. On a daily basis, there are numerous volunteers who truly make education a priority and add to the learning environment of students to ensure success. Education week is a great opportunity to recognize the hard work of these dedicated people and Teacher Staff Appreciation Week is when we can all say thank you to teachers and staff for enriching the lives of our children. It’s important to have this week to remind us of that teachers, administrators, and staff show dedication and guidance every single day of the school year. Their motivation and care is an absolute necessity in today’s education system.”
