The Provincial Government continues to support job creation and economic growth through Summer Student Employment Programs (SSEP) this year with over 1,100 students gaining valuable work experience with private and not-for-profit sector employers.

This year’s SSEP matched 693 post-secondary students and 426 high school students with summer jobs. Budget 2018 also increased the subsidy rate for private sector employers hiring post-secondary students to $5.60 per hour from $5.00.

These initiatives deliver on commitments in The Way Forward to strengthen the province’s economic foundation and deliver better services and better outcomes for residents. The Way Forward outlines all actions the Provincial Government is taking to achieve a strong, diversified province with a high standard of living, and can be viewed at thewayforward.gov.nl.ca.

“Summer Student Employment Programs are one of the many ways our government works to help students throughout Newfoundland and Labrador enter the workforce right here at home. By helping them gain real-world experience and build connections with local employers, these programs make it easier for them to take advantage of every opportunity our province has to offer.”
