The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, promoted Newfoundland and Labrador as a beautiful, safe and welcoming destination at a recent immigration fair in Netherlands.

The Emigratiebeurs Job Fair in Utrecht was held February 10-11 and attracted approximately 10,000 Dutch and other European Union citizens interested in moving to Canada.

Officials of the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour spoke individually with over 200 prospective immigrants and provided information about the province to more than 400 people who attended the recruitment events.

The Provincial Government continues to engage with partners to implement the 39 priority initiatives outlined in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the province’s collaborative immigration action plan. To date, 25 of these actions are fully implemented or in progress.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to increasing the annual number of newcomers welcomed to the province to 1,700 by 2022. Employers interested in immigration recruitment are encouraged to contact the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism at immigration@gov.nl.ca or by calling 709-729-6607.

Quote
“It was a wonderful experience to meet face-to-face with prospective immigrants from around the world and share with them what makes our province so special. Canadian businesses were able to hire highly skilled workers on the spot and I encourage employers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to take advantage of the opportunity to be on the ground at the next international immigration fair.”
Honourable Al Hawkins
