February 2, 2018

The Provincial Government today released a comprehensive guide to help newcomers, employers, communities, and all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians better understand immigration to the province.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Guide to Immigration was developed by the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism, and provides information on the benefits of immigration, immigration programs, and the role of communities and other stakeholders in supporting immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador. It meets a key commitment in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador to develop resources to educate partners on their roles in attracting, settling and retaining immigrants, as well as inform and educate employers on immigration programs and processes.

Educational postcards and brochures summarizing specific sections of the guide are also available. The guide and all companion materials may be downloaded at www.aesl.gov.nl.ca/guide_to_immigration.html

Complementing the guide, the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism will hold regular online and in-person information sessions for employers interested in learning more about immigration to Newfoundland and Labrador.

The next webinar for applicants is scheduled for February 20 and can be found at www.aesl.gov.nl.ca/webinar_applicants.html. A webinar for employers is scheduled for February 22 with information available at www.aesl.gov.nl.ca/webinar_employers.html.

As noted in The Way Forward, the Provincial Government has committed to increasing immigration to the province to 1,700 newcomers annually by 2022.

Quote
“Whether you are a newcomer who wants to settle in the province, a community interested in learning more about immigration, a permanent resident working toward Canadian citizenship, or an employer with a difficult-to-fill position, the Newfoundland and Labrador Guide to Immigration is a valuable resource that provides information on the required steps in the immigration process.”
