Update Provided on Acute Care Hospital Project for Western Newfoundland

Following a Request for Proposals, the Provincial Government has awarded a contract to EY, valued at $1.7 million for financial and procurement advisory services for the new acute care regional hospital project in Corner Brook.

The new hospital, announced in February, will include the same services currently provided at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, as well as an expanded cancer care program, including radiation services.

The new acute care regional hospital, scheduled for completion in 2023, will be approximately 50,000 square metres and will include 164 acute care beds. This is in addition to the new 145 bed long-term care facility that will include 120 long-term care beds, as well as 15 palliative care beds and 10 rehabilitative care beds. The project is on schedule for construction to begin later this fall.

The engagement of a Procurement Advisor is best practice across jurisdictions for projects of this scale and nature. The advisor will guide the development of the Request for Qualifications and the Request for Proposals and has the experience and expertise to lead us through the process to ensure a project that is on time and on budget. The RFQ for qualified proponents to build, design, finance and maintain the new hospital will be released later this fall. This will be followed by the RFP in 2018 to the proponents that have been shortlisted through the RFQ process.
