Public Advisory: Update Provided on Repairs to TCH Near Salmonier Line

Motorists are advised that the Trans-Canada Highway near Salmonier Line remains on schedule to reopen to traffic on Saturday, January 7, following a successful day on site. Two new culverts are now in place and crews are beginning to back fill the site. The contractor will once again work throughout the night.

A timeline of activity related to the TCH closure since the culvert collapse was first identified on December 31 can be found at the following link: www.gov.nl.ca/releases/2017/tw/0105n02timeline.jpg

Motorists are advised to continue to use the established detours. East bound traffic must exit at Route 90 (Salmonier Line) and follow Route 60 to Route 62 (Holyrood Access Road) while west bound traffic must exit at Route 62 (Holyrood Access Road) and follow Route 60 to Route 90 (Salmonier Line).

Traffic control on the detours is in place until 7:00 p.m. with assistance from the RCMP until 8:00 p.m. Motorists are asked to obey signs and drive with caution. In the event of an emergency vehicle requiring access through traffic on the detour routes, motorists are required to yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles, as required under the Highway Traffic Act and to stop and remain in that position until the emergency vehicle has passed.

The Department of Transportation and Works continues to ask people for their patience as delays are expected through the detours and remind motorists that all steps are being taken to expedite repairs and to have the highway opened as quickly as possible.
