Public Advisory: Closure of TCH Near Salmonier Extended to Conduct Further Repairs

Motorists are advised that the east and west bound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway from Salmonier Line to the Holyrood Access Road remain closed to facilitate further repairs.

Inspection of the highway was undertaken as part of due diligence while work was underway on the culvert damaged by heavy rains over the holiday weekend. As part of that inspection, an adjacent culvert was also examined and it has been determined that it must also be replaced. It is anticipated that the highway will now reopen on Saturday, January 7.

Motorists are advised to continue to use the established detours. East bound traffic must exit at Route 90 (Salmonier Line) and follow Route 60 to Route 62 (Holyrood Access Road) while west bound traffic must exit at Route 62 (Holyrood Access Road) and follow Route 60 to Route 90 (Salmonier Line).

Motorists are asked to obey signs and drive with caution. In the event of an emergency vehicle requiring access through traffic on the detour routes, motorists are required to yield the right-of-way to emergency vehicles, as required under the Highway Traffic Act and to stop and remain in that position until the emergency vehicle has passed.

The Department of Transportation and Works appreciates the patience and courtesy of motorists as delays are expected through the detours. All steps are being taken to expedite repairs and to have the highway opened as quickly as possible.
